A Night of Historical Football Records

October 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am honored to say that I watched two of the historical games of Premier League last Saturday and I’m in awe, seriously. Sunderland has finally, FINALLY beat their arch-rival Newcastle United at home for the FIRST TIME in 28 YEARS.  And the Stan Cummins curse has been lifted. Sunderland hit man Michael Chopra who used to be a Newcastle said:  “It’s been 28 years since Sunderland beat Newcastle on Wearside and if ever there is a time to beat Newcastle, the time is now because of everything that has been going on up there.” Seriously Keano’s Sunderland is a different club right now. Imagine this is also the team that had not won at Tottenham for 30 years until August.

On the other hand, Liverpool ended Chelsea’s 4 year unbeaten home run. It was an exciting game and a nail-biting one and when  Alonso struck in the ninth minute when his 20-yard shot deflected off Jose Bosingwa and left Petr Cech wrong-footed and voila, GOAL! I was jumping up and down by then and my mother scolded me saying I am not at Stamford to wildly cheer like that, her words not mine. It was Chelsea’s first defeat under Scolari but Liverpool were always in charge of a pulsating contest at Stamford Bridge and look real title contenders on this form. But Steven Gerrard served a reminder that Liverpool had achieved nothing yet. “To win this league and become champions you have to handle the pressure of being at the top,” he said. “That’s the challenge now.” Ooh. Ease up Stevie; I have a real good feeling at this one. Go, Liverpool.

FifPro, a world-wide umbrella organisation for the PFAs around the globe that have  more than 40 associations with thousands of players for members have registered their votes for the 2007/2008 FifPro awards and the results were announced on October 27, 2008. As expected Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United winger, has been named FifPro World Footballer of the Year. He was also a member of the FifPro team-of-the-year line-up which includes five of the Spanish stars who won the 2008 European Championship. The FifPro team line-up are Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Kaka (AC Milan), Xavi (Barcelona), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United).

Indubitably, CR7 is the best player on the planet and fellow professionals from over 40 countries are in agreement. The Fifpro award, the first on the list of individual honors to be accorded to CR7 is also a strong contender for the Balon D’Or and the Fifa World Player of the Year award.

Keep them coming CR7…

Michael Owen is Carling’s September Player of the Month

October 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Newcastle United skipper and captain Michael Owen is Carling’s Cup Player of the Month for September as he was voted by 68 percent of the fans. Owen scored three goals in 4 games and he bested teammates Shay Given, Charles N’Zogbia, Sebastien Bassong and Fabricio Coloccini. It has been a tough month for Newcastle and Michael Owen who is still out because of a groin injury. Anyways i hope this award will give him a little inspiration and doesn’t he look so dashing when he received the award. Take that Fabio Capello…

Cristiano Ronaldo Lookeylikey

October 22, 2008 · 6 Comments

Don’t look now but someone has been impersonating Cristiano Ronaldo. (As if there’s still enough space in this world for another vain Cristiano Ronaldo.) And mind, he uses this likeness to trick girls to go to bed with him.

According to The People, Jamie Wright of Eastbourne has gotten his impersonation of the famous Manchester United winger down to pat, especially in tricking girls, as he uses a fake portuguese accent, chatting to girls about his “old mates” like David Beckham and whisking the girls to fancy hotels the likes of which CR7 would normally stay in. He even connived with hotel with his trickery. He said:

“One time I was in the Hilton in London and I took a girl back there who thought I was Ronaldo. The hotel puts your initials on the soap and for some reason they had put CR so that helped.”

But this professional look a like who earns £800 a day has a kind heart as he tells the girl the truth the next morning that he’s not really Ronaldo. Kind? yeah right. And pity to those girls who were conned into thinking that they have a one night stand with CR7. Maybe they should find the real one as he is not averse to this kind of thing. And maybe, maybe Real Madrid would finally get their chance on getting Ronaldo, albeit he’s only a look a like. Har har.

Will the real Cristiano Ronaldo please stand up.

Jaime Wright: Will the real Cristiano Ronaldo please stand up.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Clear Favourite for Ballon D’Or

October 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Manchester United and Portugal’s very own winger Cristiano Ronaldo is betted to be the clear winner in this December 2, 2008 Ballon d’Or ceremony, that’s is if Sir Alex Ferguson have anything to do about it. What Ronaldo did for Manchester United as well as the Champion’s League should be credited and he will be very surprised if CR7 will not get it. Sir Alex further said that he will personally sign to his team the winner of Ballon d’Or if its not Ronaldo. I wish it was Messi, i really really wanna see him play in the Premier League… Just kidding.

This year’s shortlist was quite a surprise as the list was reduced to 30 and big names were ommitted such as Ronaldinho, Henry, and past winners Schevchenko and Fabio Cannavarro, but considering their performance of last year, need we say anything about it.

Euro2008 Champ Spain boasted 7 players in the shortlist, 3 from Manchester United, 3 from Chelsea and Steven Gerrard of Liverpool. And for the complete listing, see below:

The full list of nominees is as follows:

Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal), Togo

Andrei Arshavin (Zenit St. Petersburg), Russia

Twilight Third Trailer: Spoiler Alert!

October 20, 2008 · 1 Comment

The Third trailer of the much awaited Twilight movie was shown during the Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya or the Sitges Film Festival on the first week of October and the spoilers that keep coming up has flooded the net and made all the Twilighters out there deliriously happy and wishing that November 21, 2008 will be tomorrow. Its just suck that Twilight will be shown here in Manila on January 9, 2009, WTF! I don’t think I can wait that long.

Hold on Tight!

Hold on Tight!

The third trailer showed Bella being saved by Edward from a van and the imprint he made on it; the clip with the “you really shouldn’t have said that” scene; Bella telling Edward that she knows he’s a vampire (focus on Edward’s lips as soon as she says vampire) and Edward asking her if she’s afraid and she said “no.”; and then we see them lying on the meadow; some of the ballet fight scene and the one with James; an amazing and seem to be never ending kiss between Bella and Edward; the part where the Cullens protects Bella after the “you brought a snack” part; Edward climbing the tree with Bella on his back, ripping branches and showing it to Bella; scenes with all the Cullens in the Car with James after them; Bella and Edward dancing; and the very brief image of Edward sparkling, bare chested on the meadow…

I might have forgotten something anyways just clicked the link below if its working… Yay, Twilight is coming…

England Fans: Morons the lot of them.

October 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The English Fans should be very ashamed of themselves. That is not the way to support your country. Yeah, i know it’s been decades and decades since your last football glory and you badly want them to win but if you want England to win just be there to support and not booed your countryman on the field. You are not the one playing on the field and if you’re that great and know more about the game then how come you are watching and Ashley Cole is the one playing?  Everybody makes mistake even that Kazakhstan guy who gave an OG, its just lucky there were few Kazakhstan spectators at Wembley. Rio Ferdinand was right when he said how disappointing it was that the crowd booed Cole. “When any player makes a mistake all you want to do is get behind them and gee them up so with the next touch he gets his confidence back and plays himself back into the game.”  And that’s your Captain speaking.
